About the MRMI course
MRMI is a standardized and evidence-based training program designed to strengthen healthcare systems’ and society’s preparedness for major incidents, disasters, and mass-casualty events. The course focuses on advanced triage, leadership, and inter-organizational coordination in high-pressure situations, using realistic scenarios based on terrorist attacks and natural disasters.
Training is conducted across the entire response chain simultaneously, from on-scene management and transport to hospital care, coordination, and command, ensuring a shared operational understanding between all involved actors.

🎯 Course objectives
The course aims to:
- Strengthen decision-making and prioritization during major incidents
- Improve coordination and communication between healthcare, rescue services, police, and command functions
- Provide hands-on, role-based training under realistic conditions
- Enhance preparedness for incidents involving large numbers of casualties
The course includes:
- One preparatory training day
- Two full days of large-scale simulation exercises
Training is interactive, role-based, and conducted using the MACSIM simulation system, which is internationally established and scientifically validated.
The course is intended for:
- Physicians and nursing staff
- Prehospital and ambulance personnel
- Rescue services and fire brigades
- Police
- Command, coordination, and control functions at local and regional levels
- Military medical and command personnel involved in civil–military cooperation
The course is suitable for both basic and advanced training, depending on role and experience.
Evaluation
- Mandatory digital knowledge test prior to course start
- Continuous assessment during simulations
- Structured feedback and evaluation throughout the course
Prerequisites
- Self-study of recommended course literature (distributed approximately six weeks before course start)
- Approved pre-test
Instructor course
Participation is by recommendation only and requires prior completion and approval of the basic MRMI course.
