About the program

Join a dynamic hospital environment that combines cutting-edge clinical care, research, and education. Karolinska University Hospital welcomes international health professionals through clinical fellowships in a wide range of specialties. As a fellow, you'll be integrated into our teams and take part in daily clinical activities under supervision.

Who can apply

Physicians and specialists

We welcome:

Licensed medical doctors or residents in training
Specialists seeking subspecialty training
Specialists affiliated with a university or hospital outside Swede

Requirements:

M.D. degree from an established medical school, registered as a medical practitioner and authorized to practice medicine
A strong interest in both academic and clinical work
Fluency in English (Swedish is an advantage, not required)

Are you a nurse? Nursing fellowships are managed through EUCARE Nursing, not through this program. Apply via EUCARE Nursing.

Areas of specialization

Clinical fellowships are currently available in the following specialties:

Gastroenterology

Applications for fellowships will open in January 2027 for other specialties.

Availability may vary by department and time of year. At the central level, applications can currently only be processed within these specialties.

Practical information

Cost: Most fellowships are self-financed or funded by your sending institution. Some departments offer paid positions.
Insurance & Visa: You are responsible for travel and health insurance. A visa may be required if your country is outside the EU.
