Global pediatric excellence

Our patients are severely ill children from all over the country and world. We care for pediatric patients with a wide spectrum of acute and chronic conditions, malformations, and trauma as well as premature newborns. We provide specialized and highly specialized care and have several national healthcare missions, for example certain advanced pediatric and adolescent surgery.

The Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital, a hospital within the Karolinska University Hospital and affiliated with Karolinska Institutet, is Sweden's most research-intensive pediatric hospital with the largest center dedicated to improving children's health in the country.

Our hospital operates on three different sites within the Stockholm region, at the Karolinska University Hospital in Solna and Huddinge and at the Danderyd Hospital.

With a staff of approximately 2 200, Every year, Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital serves regional, national, and international patients with approximately 180 000 outpatient and 20 000 inpatient visits per year. We offer many different national services and a large transportation service specifically for the international transport of severely ill children.

Our research programs range from basic discovery research all the way to clinical care and are supported by state-of-the-art expertise, technologies, and facilities. We have a dedicated center for clinical research in children which ensures a high quality of all clinical studies.
