Astrid Lindgren Children's Hospital
Global pediatric excellence at Karolinska University Hospital
At Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital, part of Karolinska University Hospital, we care for some of the most seriously ill children in Sweden and around the world. Our patients include newborns, infants, children, and adolescents with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, birth defects, trauma, and complications due to premature birth.
We offer both specialized and highly specialized pediatric care. Several of our services are national healthcare missions, such as certain advanced pediatric and adolescent surgery.
Sweden’s leading pediatric research hospital
Astrid Lindgren Children’s Hospital is Sweden’s most research-intensive pediatric hospital, closely affiliated with Karolinska Institutet, one of the world’s top medical universities. Together, we form Sweden’s largest center focused on improving children’s health through care, research, and education.
We operate at three locations in the Stockholm region:
- Karolinska University Hospital in Solna
- Karolinska University Hospital in Huddinge
- Danderyd Hospital
With a staff of around 2,200 professionals, we welcome patients at both national and international levels. Every year, we manage approximately 180,000 outpatient visits and 20,000 inpatient visits. Our hospital also operates a specialized medical transport service for the international transfer of critically ill children.
Caring innovators – transforming child health
We are more than a hospital. Our dedicated teams work every day to deliver the highest standards of child- and family-centered care. We are committed to medical excellence, continuous learning, and clinical innovation to shape the future of pediatric health.
Our Vision
To cure and relieve tomorrow what no one can cure or relieve today.
Our Mission
To lead in managing complex pediatric conditions while using our resources responsibly.
A safe, inclusive, and research-driven environment
We are committed to being a safe and welcoming environment for children, families, staff, and students. A children’s rights perspective is at the heart of our work—ensuring that every child is treated with dignity, listened to, and involved in decisions about their care. Equity, diversity, and inclusion are essential values in everything we do.
As a university hospital, we integrate care and research. Every child and family has the opportunity to learn about and take part in relevant clinical studies. Our research spans from basic science to advanced clinical applications, supported by cutting-edge technology and facilities. We also host a dedicated center for clinical pediatric research to ensure the highest quality of all studies conducted.
