This approval represents international recognition of the section’s high level of expertise, substantial clinical volume, and broad experience in craniomaxillofacial trauma care. AO CMF is a global organization and leading platform for knowledge exchange and advancement in craniomaxillofacial surgery and traumatology. Its fellowship program brings together surgeons from around the world for advanced clinical training.

As a Host Center, Karolinska will welcome international fellows for 4–8 week training periods. Approximately 75 percent of the fellowship is spent at Karolinska University Hospital, with the remaining time at Akademiska University Hospital in Uppsala. The structure offers participants access to two highly specialized clinical environments, diverse approaches to care delivery, and extensive experience in modern facial trauma management.

“This designation is a strong testament to the expertise and collaborative culture that defines our practice. Becoming an AO CMF Host Center allows us to share our experience internationally while also strengthening our own development through new perspectives and professional exchange,” says Alberto Falk Delgado, Acting Manager of Emergency and Reparative Medicine Theme, Karolinska University Hospital.

The initiative and development process were led by Iman Malakuti in close collaboration with Section Head Fatemeh Jabbari and Alberto Falk Delgado, with support from Payam Farzad.

“Payam Farzad's experience and long-standing engagement within AO CMF were instrumental in securing the approval,” Alberto adds.

Through this new designation, Karolinska University Hospital further strengthens its position as an international leader in advanced facial trauma care, while creating a platform for continued knowledge exchange and the advancement of future surgical practice.
