In the latest ranking, Karolinska is in 11th place, two places higher than a year ago. Karolinska is also included in all 12 medical fields that make up Newsweek's ranking of the world's best specialized hospitals.

"It is absolutely fantastic that Karolinska University Hospital, thanks to all its dedicated employees, is advancing in the global ranking as one of the world's most innovative hospitals. It is a testament to our ability as a hospital to quickly integrate AI, robotics, and other advanced technologies into healthcare and shows how technological developments can quickly benefit our patients," says Christophe Pedroletti, Chief Executive Officer at Karolinska University Hospital.

World's Best Smart Hospitals includes hospitals that are best at introducing new smart and advanced technology for the benefit and use of patients. This includes, for example, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, digital image management, telemedicine, electronic functionality, and VR technology.

In last year's ranking, Karolinska University Hospital stood out in its use of artificial intelligence for diagnostics and treatment. This year, Karolinska stands out in artificial intelligence, robotics, and telemedicine.

“We also have the privilege of operating in a region that tops the EU's ranking of innovative regions, in an ecosystem of renowned universities such as Karolinska Institute, KTH Royal Institue of Technology and Stockholm University, and in a vibrant life science environment. Together, we can achieve even more,” says Christophe Pedroletti.

In addition, the ranking of the World's Best Specialized Hospitals was also published. Compared to the previous year, six medical areas at Karolinska University Hospital have climbed higher on the list. These are gastroenterology, obstetrics & gynecology, oncology, pediatrics, pulmonology, and urology. The field of urology has climbed the most positions since last year. Two other fields that have climbed significantly are pulmonary care and gastroenterology.
