Karolinska University Hospital hosted Nordic cybersecurity forum

Previous meetings have taken place in Oslo and Copenhagen. The Stockholm event brought together around 40 participants, including representatives from national cyber security centers, regional health authorities, hospitals, the European Commission, and industry.
A holistic perspective on preparedness and digital resilience
Karolinska’s Chief Information Officer Malin Fahlén and Chief Information Security Officer Johnny Moraeus opened the program by presenting the hospital’s integrated approach to security and emergency preparedness, developed in close cooperation with Region Stockholm.
“We are continuously working to build resilience across physical, digital, and organizational domains. It is important that cybersecurity is not viewed as an isolated IT issue, but as part of the hospital’s overall risk management and patient safety strategy,” said Malin Fahlén,
Participants also took part in a guided tour of Karolinska University Hospital, with a focus on clinical preparedness planning and infrastructure.
Topics at the intersection of policy, technology, and care
The two-day program featured speakers from multiple countries and sectors. Topics included:
- The evolving threat landscape and cyber risks in healthcare supply chains
- National strategies from Sweden and Finland
- Cybersecurity priorities from the European Commission
- Medical device cybersecurity from both industry and healthcar perspectives
- Leadership’s role in driving security culture
One of the highlights was a session on how regional and university hospitals work in practice with cyber risk mitigation, featuring Helsinki University Hospital, South Eastern Norway Regional Health Authority, Södersjukhuset, and Karolinska University Hospital.
Collaboration as key to future resilience
“The strength of this forum lies in its collaborative nature. Healthcare providers across the Nordics face similar challenges, and we benefit greatly from sharing both lessons learned and future strategies,” said Morten Thorkildsen, Project Lead for the forum on behalf of DNV.
Karolinska University Hospital is proud to have contributed to the ongoing dialogue and to have supported the forum as host. As digitalization accelerates and healthcare systems become more interconnected, collaboration on cybersecurity and preparedness will remain a vital component of safe and effective care delivery.
Hear Johnny Moraeus, Chief Information Security Officer and Karl Selin, Cyber Security Specialist talk about why this event matters, and why cyber security is a collaborative effort.
