International Healthcare Requests

Process Overview

When we receive a care request, we contact the relevant department at Karolinska University Hospital to check availability. If the clinic accepts the care request, a second opinion is primarily offered based on the existing medical documents from the examinations and treatments that have already been conducted. Based on this assessment, the clinic then decides whether they can offer treatment. You will receive a written response in English.

Advance payment is required. If the patient is offered a visit or treatment, we will send an agreement with an estimated cost in SEK for the suggested treatment. Payment must be made before any treatment can be initiated and scheduled.

As we are a public hospital, national patients are given precedence, and medical services to international patients are offered if, or when, capacity permits.

Please note that Karolinska University Hospital does not handle urgent case requests, as both the administrative and clinical handling of cases requires some time.

If you wish to send an inquiry to the International Patient Office, the first step is to register an account and submit it for review and approval. Once the account is approved, you can submit your request and upload relevant medical documents.
